Bulletin from the floor
7 July 2000

Beloved:

The story I'd planned to file today will wait until tomorrow.

Forty-five minutes ago I went to the hall of the House of Deputies to speak with some members of Rio Grande's deputation. While I was there a deputy from Dallas threw a handful of salt at Louis Crew (chair of Newark's deputation) in order to exorcise his homosexuality. Dallas' senior deputy then apologized to Dr Crew and to the House. When the President of the House of Deputies then declared a brief recess, a substantial majority of the deputies stood to sing "We shall overcome."

Because I was in the hall and thus a long way from the action, I may have missed a detail. I'll watch the replay as soon as it's available, and pass on any additions or corrections.

Note from Anglicans Online: later eyewitness reports confirm that the salt was placed, not thrown. Details here in the AO GC2000 News Centre.

Shalom,
Pepper
